Akshay Kumar reveals he was ‘removed’ from ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ franchise

During a recent interaction with fans through an Indian media outlet, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar shared why he didn’t return for the sequels of the hit ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ franchise. Akshay, who was the lead in the first film, revealed a surprising reason for his absence.

When a fan asked him why he wasn’t part of the sequel or the upcoming third film, Akshay candidly replied, “Beta, mujhe nikaal dia tha (Son, I was removed). That’s it.” He further added that he hadn’t watched ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ or its follow-up because of this reason.

Akshay Kumar played the lead role in the original ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa,’ a Hindi remake of the famous Malayalam movie ‘Manichitrathazhu,’ directed by Priyadarshan. The 2007 movie also featured Vidya Balan, Shiney Ahuja, and Ameesha Patel and became a massive success.

In 2022, the franchise took a new turn when director Anees Bazmee revamped it as a horror-comedy series. The sequel, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2,’ starred Kartik Aaryan and became a hit, leading to the announcement of another film in the series.

During the same interaction, a fan pointed out that Akshay had been doing fewer comedy movies in recent years. To this, the ‘Housefull’ actor agreed, explaining, “That’s true. I’ve done fewer comedies. In the past decade, I focused on doing social films like ‘Sarfira,’ ‘Airlift,’ ‘Rustom,’ ‘Padman,’ and ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.’ These were the kind of stories I wanted to work on at that time. Every person has a phase where they follow their mindset.”

However, Akshay had good news for fans who miss his comedy films. He revealed, “I’ve signed about 2-3 comedy films that I’m currently working on. These include ‘Bhooth Bangla,’ the upcoming ‘Welcome (to the Jungle),’ and ‘Housefull 5.’”

Fans of Akshay Kumar are eagerly waiting to see him back in his signature comedy roles, while the revamped ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ franchise continues to explore new heights with a different cast and direction.
