Varun Dhawan 'Depressed' After Baby John Failure? Rajpal Yadav Reveals

Rajpal Yadav recently shared his thoughts on whether Varun Dhawan is feeling 'depressed' due to the failure of his movie Baby John. In the film, Rajpal Yadav plays the role of Constable Ram Sevak, who works alongside Varun’s character, DCP Satya Verma. During a recent interview, Rajpal talked about Baby John’s struggle at the box office and suggested that the film might have done better if it hadn't been a remake.

Rajpal explained that if Baby John had been an original film, it would have been one of the best films of his 25-year career. He believes the film's performance suffered because it was based on the Tamil movie Theri. "If this wasn’t a remake, then this would have been the most well-made film of my 25-year career. But since Vijay had done it, the audience had already seen it, and because it was a remake, it affected the box office of the film," he said.

When asked if Varun Dhawan was feeling down after the film's failure, Rajpal had positive words for the actor. "Varun is such a sweet boy, very hardworking. He has always tried to do something different, and his attempts must be appreciated because it’s a big deal to take risks," he added.

Baby John was released on December 25, 2024, and starred Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jackie Shroff. The story follows Inspector Satya Verma (played by Varun Dhawan), also known as Baby John, who leads a peaceful life with his daughter Khushi and his old friend, Ram Sevak (Rajpal Yadav). However, his past catches up with him, and he faces challenges with Babar Sher (Jackie Shroff) as he seeks revenge for his wife’s fate and fights against the exploitation of women.

The film received mostly negative reviews from critics and audiences. A review from News18 Showsha pointed out that the movie struggled with its writing and direction. "The film falters in its writing and direction. The plot feels stretched, with a sluggish first half that echoes Akshay Kumar’s Rowdy Rathore. Although the second half gains momentum, it remains predictable, lacking suspense or originality," the review stated.

Despite its big budget of Rs 180 crore, Baby John earned less than Rs 50 crore at the box office, showing that it didn’t connect with audiences as hoped.
