Traffic Disruptions in Central Delhi Ahead of Republic Day Parade Rehearsal

The Delhi Police have issued a traffic advisory to warn commuters about possible traffic disruptions in central Delhi on Thursday, as the full dress rehearsal for the Republic Day parade will take place. They have advised everyone to plan their travel accordingly.

The rehearsal will follow the same route as the Republic Day parade, starting at 10:30 AM from Vijay Chowk. The route will go through several areas, including Kartavyapath, C-Hexagon, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Netaji Subhash Marg, before reaching Red Fort.
To ensure the smooth movement of the parade, there will be several traffic restrictions in place along the parade route.

Starting at 6 PM on Wednesday, no vehicles will be allowed on Kartavyapath from Vijay Chowk to India Gate, and this restriction will last until the rehearsal is over on Thursday. From 11 PM on Wednesday, there will be no cross-traffic at Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Man Singh Road. C-Hexagon near India Gate will be closed to traffic from 9:15 AM on Thursday until the parade crosses Tilak Marg.

From 10:30 AM on Thursday, vehicles won’t be allowed to move in either direction on Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Netaji Subhas Marg. Cross-traffic will be allowed only when the parade passes by. The Delhi Police have advised commuters to avoid the parade route from 9:30 AM to 1 PM.

Metro services will continue as usual, with all stations open for commuters. However, people traveling to New Delhi Railway Station or Old Delhi from north Delhi will not face restrictions but should still plan extra time for possible delays.

There will be changes in the routes for city buses. Several key roads, including Park Street, Aram Bagh Road, and others, will have bus movement curbed. Buses traveling to Ghaziabad will take alternative routes like National Highway-24 and Ring Road.

Heavy vehicles, including medium and light goods vehicles, will not be allowed to enter Delhi from 9 PM on Wednesday until the parade ends. Only essential services will be allowed to move.

Auto-rickshaws and taxis will not be allowed to enter or travel within specific areas from 7 AM on Thursday. These areas include parts of Mother Teresa Crescent, Ashoka Road, Sansad Marg, Ferozshah Road, and others, as detailed in the advisory.

The Delhi Police have asked the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious objects or people to the nearest police officer.
Flying drones, paragliders, hot air balloons, or any other small aircraft will be banned over Delhi until February 1 for security reasons.

The advisory also reminds all drivers to follow traffic rules and listen to instructions from police officers stationed at traffic intersections during the rehearsal.
By following these guidelines, the Republic Day parade rehearsal can proceed smoothly, and everyone can stay safe while minimizing the traffic impact.
