The stock market started on a positive note as trading began on Friday, January 24, 2025. However, sectors like oil and gas, metals, and mid and small-cap financial services saw the most losses. At 9:20 AM, the BSE Sensex rose by 220.09 points, or 0.29%, reaching 76,740.47, while the broader NSE Nifty climbed by 71 points, or 0.31%, to reach 23,276.35.
Among the 30 Sensex stocks, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd saw the biggest rise, increasing by 1.77%, and was trading at ₹299.50. NTPC Ltd followed closely with a rise of 1.28%, trading at ₹327.80, and Tata Steel Ltd increased by 1.11%, reaching ₹131.95. Only five of the 30 Sensex stocks were in the red zone.
When looking at individual sectors, the Nifty Oil & Gas Index showed the largest rise, up by 0.94%, reaching 10,803.05. It was followed by Nifty Metal, which rose by 0.87%, reaching 8,589.30, and Nifty Midsmall Financial Services, which increased by 0.58%, reaching 15,426.00. However, the Oil & Gas index saw the biggest fall as oil prices dropped again. Brent Crude oil decreased by 0.15% to $78.17 per barrel for March 2025 contracts, while WTI Crude Oil fell by 0.17%, trading at $74.49 per barrel for March 2025 contracts, according to Bloomberg data.
On Thursday, January 25, 2025, the stock market ended in the green for the second time this week. After a strong rally on Monday, the market had taken a dip on Tuesday towards the close. The Sensex rose by 115.39 points, or 0.15%, closing at 76,520.38, while the Nifty increased by 50 points, or 0.22%, ending at 23,205.35.
Among the Sensex stocks, UltraTech Cement Ltd saw the biggest rise, jumping 6.81% to close at ₹11,422.70. Zomato Ltd followed with a 2.52% increase, closing at ₹221.90, and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd gained 2.03%, closing at ₹2,885.35.
In the Nifty sectoral indices, the Nifty Midsmall IT & Telecom saw the highest growth, rising by 5%, reaching 10,816.20. Nifty Consumer Durables followed, climbing by 1.97%, reaching 38,496.10, and Nifty IT rose by 1.79%, reaching 43,351.75.
Overall, it was a positive day for the stock market, but sectors like oil and gas were impacted by falling oil prices.
