Sky Force Day 1: Akshay Kumar's Big Comeback with Double-Digit Opening

After a series of disappointing releases, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is back with a bang. His latest film, Sky Force, has opened to a solid response at the box office, earning a double-digit figure on its first day. The movie collected Rs 11.25 crore (net) on its opening day, according to Sacnilk. This comes as a much-needed relief for Akshay, as his recent films haven’t been able to make a big impact.

Sky Force was made on a budget of Rs 160 crore, which is considered modest for a Bollywood film of this scale. The film tells the story of India’s first and deadliest airstrike during the 1965 India-Pakistan War, offering viewers a glimpse into a crucial chapter of Indian military history. Akshay plays the role of an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer named KO Ahuja, who sets out on a mission to find his missing colleague, T Vijaya, played by Veer Pahariya in his acting debut.

Akshay’s career has faced a tough phase lately. His last major hit was Sooryavanshi (2021), directed by Rohit Shetty. That film was a massive success, earning Rs 293 crore globally, with a budget of Rs 160 crore. However, after that, many of his films like Khel Khel Mein, Sarfira, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Mission Raniganj, Selfiee, Ram Setu, Raksha Bandhan, Samrat Prithviraj, and Bachchhan Paandey didn’t do well at the box office.

Akshay’s last big release, Singham Again, earned Rs 372.4 crore worldwide, but it was led by Ajay Devgn and had a large ensemble cast. Akshay made only a cameo appearance in that film. He also appeared in Stree 2, which was a success, earning Rs 857.15 crore globally.

Sky Force has already drawn comparisons to Fighter, which starred Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone. The fighter was also released around Republic Day last year and earned Rs 22.5 crore on its opening day. It went on to become a hit, grossing Rs 358.83 crore worldwide. While Sky Force is not quite at the same level, its solid opening gives hope for its success in the coming days.

In addition to Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya, Sky Force also stars Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan in important roles. The film is directed by Sandeep Kelwani and Abhishek Kapur, and the storytelling is expected to draw audiences in with its gripping plot based on true events.

Overall, Sky Force seems to be a strong step towards Akshay Kumar’s comeback, with its powerful story and growing audience interest.
