Sandeep Dikshit, the Congress candidate for the New Delhi Assembly constituency, has expressed strong confidence in winning the upcoming elections. He is set to file his nomination papers on Thursday, signaling his commitment to the campaign.
Speaking about his preparations and public interactions, Mr. Dikshit shared his optimism about the Congress party’s chances. He mentioned that during his meetings with residents of the constituency, he noticed a growing positive sentiment towards the Congress. “I feel very confident about our chances. After speaking to many people and understanding their views on other parties, I’ve seen a shift in support toward us,” he stated.
Mr. Dikshit highlighted the importance of understanding the mood of the public to shape his campaign approach. He also pointed out that there is a growing dissatisfaction among voters with the current AAP government, which has led to more people reconsidering their options in favor of Congress.
Commenting on recent controversies involving BJP leader Parvesh Verma, Mr. Dikshit addressed allegations surrounding Verma's actions at a temple, including an incident where shoes were distributed. He criticized such moves, stating, “These actions don’t reflect the true spirit of social service. Our focus is on policies and public service, not distributing material things to gain votes.”
He went on to emphasize the importance of democracy, saying, “If voters change their choices because of such inducements, it harms the very essence of democracy.”
Mr. Dikshit also discussed the Ministry of Home Affairs’ recent approval of a money laundering case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He noted that this development was not surprising, given past financial irregularities linked to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) during elections in Goa and Punjab.
“We observed significant financial activity by AAP during those elections,” he said. He also referred to a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, which revealed financial misconduct within the AAP.
Elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly are scheduled for February 5, with the counting of votes set to take place on February 8.
