In a disturbing incident, a 20-year-old woman from Nalasopara, Mumbai, reportedly harmed herself after being raped. The woman used a surgical blade and stones to injure her private parts, driven by fear of how her family might react to the situation.
The alleged assault took place earlier this week when the woman visited Arnala Beach in Virar with the accused, an auto-rickshaw driver. According to reports, the two could not find a hotel room as they didn’t have proper ID proof. They decided to stay the night on the beach, where the driver allegedly raped her before fleeing the scene.
Victim Seeks Medical Help After Self-Harm
Terrified of being scolded or punished by her family, the woman resorted to self-harm. In severe pain, she approached a railway station for medical assistance. Doctors performed an emergency surgery to remove the foreign objects she had inserted into her body.
Meanwhile, the victim filed a police complaint, leading to the launch of a rape investigation. Initially, she told the police that she had arrived in Mumbai by train. However, during questioning, she revealed that she had gone to Arnala Beach with the auto driver.
Suspect Arrested Amid Questions Over Victim's Statements
The accused, identified as 42-year-old Raj Ratan, was arrested by the police on Thursday night. During the investigation, further details about the woman’s background emerged. She initially claimed to be an orphan from Varanasi, living under the care of her uncle. However, her father later came forward and disclosed that she had made two previous rape complaints in 2023.
Authorities are now looking into discrepancies in the woman’s statements while continuing their investigation into the current case. The incident has raised serious concerns, highlighting the need for stronger support systems for survivors and thorough investigation processes.
