Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Sunday that top leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, are likely to attend the grand Maha Kumbh Mela.
Speaking at a press conference in Prayagraj after reviewing the preparations for Mauni Amavasya, Adityanath shared that several programs involving these leaders are being planned for the event. Former President Ram Nath Kovind is also actively organizing the Maha Kumbh.
The Chief Minister explained that he skipped taking a holy dip at the Sangam on the festivals of Makar Sankranti and Paush Purnima to ensure convenience for the large number of seers and devotees present.
Devotees Arriving From Across the World
Adityanath noted that the Maha Kumbh has drawn countless devotees from all over India and even abroad. He mentioned how foreign visitors were especially moved after taking a holy dip at the Sangam. He highlighted an emotional moment where European tourists, despite not knowing Hindi, Sanskrit, or Awadhi, chanted devotional songs, Sanskrit mantras, and Hindi couplets with great devotion. Their respect for the Ganga River and sacred traditions left a deep impression.
Key Bathing Events and Visitors
The Chief Minister informed the media that two major bathing events, Mauni Amavasya on January 29 and Basant Panchami on February 3, are yet to take place. The Paush Purnima and Makar Sankranti bathing events have already concluded successfully, with over seven crore people having taken a dip on Sunday. Adityanath added that eight to ten crore devotees are expected during Mauni Amavasya.
Adityanath praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the Maha Kumbh, saying it blends tradition with modern amenities, making the event grand and inclusive.
Enhanced Arrangements for Devotees
Both central and state government departments are working together to manage the massive gathering. Adityanath revealed that officials like the state chief secretary and director general of police (DGP) have been stationed at the site to oversee preparations.
An aerial survey of the area was conducted on Sunday to ensure everything was progressing smoothly. Special instructions have been given to improve communication, cleanliness, and security systems at the event. For crowd management, movement on pontoon bridges will be one-way on special days, and vehicles will not be allowed in the mela area during Mauni Amavasya and Basant Panchami.
The Chief Minister directed that uninterrupted electricity and water supply be maintained, toilets and pontoon bridges be kept clean, and a clear traffic management plan be shared with visitors.
Railway Support for Smooth Travel
Considering the rush during these major events, Adityanath called for special train services. He suggested that regular train services be temporarily adjusted to prioritize Mela Special trains from January 25 to February 5. More than 200 Mela Special trains have been planned, and he urged railway authorities to stay vigilant and ensure smooth travel for devotees.
Special Cabinet Meeting at the Mela
Adityanath shared that a state cabinet meeting is scheduled at the Kumbh Mela on January 22. Officials have been asked to complete all necessary preparations for the meeting on time.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that with the blessings of Lord Prayagraj and Mother Ganga, the remaining bathing events will be a grand success.
Faith and Devotion at the Maha Kumbh
He highlighted how governors, chief ministers from other states, judges, and representatives from across India are attending the event. Adityanath concluded by saying that the devotion of seers, foreign visitors, and millions of devotees shows the global appeal of the Maha Kumbh and its spiritual significance.
