Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Mumbai on Wednesday for two major events. First, he will commission three important naval vessels at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. The three vessels are INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer. These vessels are part of India’s efforts to strengthen its naval power. INS Surat and INS Nilgiri are warships, while INS Vaghsheer is a submarine.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a new ISKCON temple in Navi Mumbai. The temple is dedicated to Sri Sri Radha Madanmohanji, a key figure in ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness). This temple is another important cultural landmark for the city.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is in Gujarat on a three-day visit. On Wednesday, he will lay the foundation stone for a new barrage on the Sabarmati River near Ambod village. He will also virtually inaugurate a new circuit house in Mansa, Gandhinagar, and launch several other development projects, including those related to roads and education.
On the political front, the Congress party is set to inaugurate its new national headquarters in Delhi on Wednesday. The new building is located on Kotla Road and is named Indira Gandhi Bhawan. This marks a major shift as the Congress party has vacated its old headquarters at 24, Akbar Road, where it had operated for nearly 50 years. The new headquarters took about 15 years to complete. The foundation stone for the building was laid in December 2009 by then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi, along with AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi, will inaugurate the building. Around 400 Congress leaders from across the country are expected to attend the event.
In the Supreme Court, there are several important cases to be heard. One of the key cases is related to the health of Jagjit Singh Dallewal, a farmer leader who is on an indefinite hunger strike. He is demanding that the government guarantee a minimum support price for crops. The Supreme Court will hear this case on Wednesday. The court will also hear a plea regarding the Punjab government’s failure to follow its orders for moving Dallewal to a hospital last December.
The court will also hear another important case related to the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. A petition was filed against a previous court ruling that dismissed cases related to the religious dispute between the Shahi Idgah mosque and the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple.
Additionally, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging changes made to the Conduct of Election Rules. The government has updated the rules to stop public access to certain electronic documents, such as CCTV footage, to prevent misuse during elections.
Lastly, the Supreme Court will also hear a set of cases challenging a ruling from the Calcutta High Court, which invalidated the appointment of over 25,000 teachers and non-teaching staff in schools in West Bengal.
This is a summary of the major political and legal events happening in India on Wednesday, focusing on important leaders, decisions, and court cases.
