A 27-year-old woman from Thane district, Maharashtra, has accused a man of raping her, forcing her into marriage, and subjecting her to severe torture. The man allegedly blackmailed her, burnt her with cigarette butts, and even used a hot ‘tawa’ to harm her. The police registered an FIR against the 38-year-old man and five of his family members, including his mother, after the woman filed a complaint.
The nightmare for the woman began four years ago when she and the accused became friends on Facebook. Over time, the man allegedly took her to a lodge in Ulhasnagar and raped her. He also made an objectionable video of her and threatened to post it online if she didn’t agree to his demands. He raped her multiple times, and the victim was forced to marry him.
After the marriage, the man and his mother took the woman to Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. There, they cut her hair and eyebrows and kept her locked in a house against her will. The abuse continued as they tortured her by burning her with cigarette butts and hitting her with a hot ‘tawa.’ These actions left her with severe injuries.
The man also took important documents from her, including her Aadhaar and PAN cards, and used them to take out loans without her consent. To further control her, they threatened to release the objectionable video online unless she got her father to send them money.
The woman finally managed to escape and filed a police complaint on Sunday. The police have now filed charges against the man and his family under various sections of the law, including repeated rape, sexual harassment, kidnapping, and extortion. However, no arrests have been made yet, and the police are continuing their investigation into the case.
