Kejriwal vows to include tenants in AAP's free power, water scheme

Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has promised to include tenants in Delhi under the free power and water schemes after the party wins the upcoming Delhi assembly election in 2025. This announcement was made by Kejriwal during a press conference in the city on Saturday.

Kejriwal explained that many tenants in Delhi, especially those from the Purvanchal region, have raised concerns about being excluded from the benefits of free electricity and water. He mentioned that while these tenants benefit from good schools and hospitals, they do not get free power and water like other residents. He assured them that if AAP wins, tenants will also enjoy the same benefits of free electricity and water as other citizens.

The Delhi assembly elections are scheduled to be held on February 5, with vote counting on February 8. In this election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress are working hard to prevent AAP from winning a third consecutive term in power. The AAP has promised some benefits for the people of Delhi, including a ₹2,100 monthly honorarium for women, free healthcare for the elderly, and ₹10 lakh insurance for auto drivers. Kejriwal also recently announced that if AAP returns to power, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) will receive funds to hire private guards for security.

These proposed schemes will be added to the existing benefits already offered by AAP, such as improved government schools, mohalla clinics, and free electricity for residents. These programs are part of the party’s vision to make life better for Delhi's citizens.

In the upcoming elections, all 70 assembly seats in Delhi will be up for vote on February 5. The vote counting will take place on February 8. This election is expected to be a tough competition, with the BJP and Congress hoping to stop AAP from winning a third term in power.

The last date for filing nominations was January 17, and the scrutiny of the nominations is scheduled for January 18. Candidates will have until January 20 to withdraw their nominations. The Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, has mentioned that the election will be a single-phase event. The polling date has been chosen on a Wednesday to encourage more people to come out and vote, similar to what was done in Maharashtra. He also assured that the entire election process will be completed by February 10.

Rajiv Kumar also responded to allegations that eligible voters' names were being removed from the voter list. He clarified that no names could be removed without proper documentation and field verification and that everyone concerned would be given a chance to be heard.
