iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 16 Pro: Why the Next iPhone Flagship is Worth Waiting For

Photo: AP

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have been around for a few months now, and they’ve mostly improved on what the iPhone 15 Pro models already offered. These phones have a solid build with titanium as the main material and a powerful 3nm chipset. The iPhone 16 Pro also comes with some pro features, like the ability to shoot in ProRes Log and play AAA games like Resident Evil 4.

As 2025 arrives, rumors and leaks about the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro are starting to pop up. Here’s what we expect from the iPhone 17 Pro when it launches, and how it might compare to the current iPhone 16 Pro.

A Possible Big Redesign One of the most exciting things about the iPhone 17 Pro could be a major redesign. If you look at the iPhone 16 Pro, it’s almost identical to the iPhone 15 Pro. And if you take away the titanium material, it looks very similar to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro, too. IPhones have had almost the same design since the iPhone 11 Pro, with a triangular camera setup in the top-left corner. The screen sizes have gotten bigger over the years, but if you look at an iPhone 13 Pro and an iPhone 15 Pro side by side, you might not notice the difference.

This is where the iPhone 17 Pro might be different. Leaks suggest that Apple could give the iPhone 17 Pro a new look, similar to the Pixel 9, with a camera bar on the top half of the phone. This design change could make the phone stand out, and it seems likely that Apple will do this since it’s been a while since they introduced a major design shift. The iPhone 12 changed the design with flat sides, and since then, there have only been small tweaks. So, compared to the iPhone 16 Pro, the iPhone 17 Pro could offer a fresh experience, and we think people will really like it, making the newer models more popular.

More Power Expected When it comes to power, the iPhone 16 Pro is equipped with the Apple A18 Pro 3nm chipset, which competes with other high-end processors like the Snapdragon 8 Elite and MediaTek Dimensity 9400. In some tests, the Snapdragon processor has outperformed Apple’s A18 Pro, especially in multi-core benchmarks. To stay ahead, Apple will likely focus on the A19 Pro chip for the iPhone 17 Pro, which should provide even more power than the iPhone 16 Pro. Apple has already made a name for itself as the only brand offering AAA games on mobile, like Resident Evil 4 and Death Stranding. With the iPhone 17 Pro, Apple could improve the gaming experience and keep its lead in offering the best mobile gaming performance.

Improved Camera Experience The iPhone 16 Pro’s camera is similar to that of the iPhone 15 Pro. It has a wide camera, telephoto lens, LiDAR sensor, and a new ultra-wide-angle lens. But if the iPhone 17 Pro features a brand-new camera system, it could improve the photography experience. Right now, many high-end phones, including models from Vivo, Oppo, and Samsung, are ahead of Apple when it comes to photo quality. While Apple is known for having great video quality, it still lags in pure photo performance. A better camera on the iPhone 17 Pro could help Apple compete with the top Chinese flagships and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

In conclusion, the iPhone 17 Pro has a lot of potential to be a game-changer with a major redesign, more power, and a better camera. If Apple can deliver on these expectations, it will likely be a big hit when it launches.
