Gautam Adani Meets Israeli Envoy to Discuss India-Israel Collaboration

On Monday, Gautam Adani, the Chairman of the Adani Group, met with Reuven Azar, the Israeli Ambassador to India, and his wife, Rachel Azar, along with other officials. They had an important meeting where they talked about the growing collaboration between India and Israel.

Gautam Adani shared his thoughts on the partnership in a post on the social media platform X, saying that the Adani Group is fully committed to continuing its investments in Israel and expanding its relationship.

He wrote, "Honoured to meet with Israeli Ambassador H.E. @ReuvenAzar and Mrs. Rachel Azar, along with their team. We had productive discussions on supporting India-Israel collaboration, especially in areas like the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and defense partnerships."

Adani also mentioned, "Through Haifa Port and Adani Israel Ltd, the Adani Group is dedicated to continuing to invest and strengthen our long-term partnership with Israel."

In 2023, the Adani Group made a significant move by acquiring the strategic Haifa Port in Israel for $1.2 billion. Haifa Port is the second-largest port in Israel for shipping containers and the largest port for cruise ships carrying tourists.

One of the key topics discussed was the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which is an important project aimed at improving trade and the movement of goods between Europe and Asia. The IMEC was launched during India’s G20 presidency and plans to connect India, the Middle East, and Europe through countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel, and the European Union.

The initiative aims to reduce logistics costs, provide faster travel routes, and ensure safer movement of goods across these regions, with better cooperation in these areas.

Adani Ports, which is the largest port developer and operator in India, has a significant role to play. The company operates 15 ports and terminals across India—seven on the west coast and eight on the east coast. This makes up 27% of the total port volumes in the country.

Additionally, the Adani Group is working on other international projects, including a transshipment port in Colombo and Container Terminal 2 at Dar Es Salaam Port in Tanzania.

This meeting between Gautam Adani and the Israeli officials highlights the continued strengthening of ties between India and Israel, with the Adani Group playing an important role in the growing collaboration, especially in trade and defense.
