Samsung is all set to kick off 2025 with its highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22 in San Jose, California. The spotlight will undoubtedly be on the launch of the Galaxy S25 series, which has already generated significant buzz among tech enthusiasts. The smartphones will operate on Android 15-based OneUI 7 and will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, promising a seamless and powerful user experience.
The Galaxy S25 series will feature three models: the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Among them, the Ultra model is expected to stand out with a flat-frame design and rounded edges, moving away from the sharp, angular look of its predecessor. Another exciting upgrade in the Ultra model is the potential introduction of a 16GB RAM option, offering a boost over the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 12GB maximum. Camera enthusiasts can also look forward to a new 50MP ultra-wide sensor, replacing the 12MP lens of the previous model. The Galaxy S25 and S25+ models are rumored to feature brighter displays with thinner bezels, adding to their aesthetic appeal. All three models will be powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, as Samsung moves away from Exynos processors for its flagship devices. However, there are reports of a ₹5,000 price increase for the Galaxy S25 series in India compared to the S24 lineup.
A thinner variant called the Galaxy S25 Slim is reportedly set to launch in 39 countries, including India, the UK, Australia, and Türkiye. Notably, it will not be available in the US, Canada, China, or even South Korea, Samsung’s home country.
Samsung’s OneUI 7 is also expected to make its debut at the event. This version will introduce several new features, including a customizable lock screen Now Bar, redesigned camera controls, and streamlined home screen widgets. Security upgrades are another highlight, with the addition of the Knox Matrix Dashboard for unified security management, passkey-based logins, and the Theft Detection Lock, all built on Android 15.
AI innovation is expected to play a major role in the Galaxy S25 series. Samsung’s Galaxy AI will bring features like Multimodal Sketch-to-Image, which allows users to create visuals using sketches, text, or voice commands. The system keyboard will also receive upgrades with tools for text summarization, grammar checks, and style recommendations. The AI-powered Now Brief will deliver personalized updates on weather, fitness goals, news, and gallery highlights directly to the lock screen. Rumors also suggest a partnership with Google to integrate Gemini, enabling smart features like extracting YouTube content and saving it to Notes. Additionally, a revamped version of Samsung’s voice assistant, Bixby, is anticipated, with teasers hinting at a “true AI companion” that could revolutionize the user experience.
The event is also expected to showcase other innovative devices. The Galaxy Ring 2, a health-monitoring smart ring, is rumored to feature improved sensors and extended battery life. Samsung may also unveil its “Project Moohan” XR headset, which could include high-resolution displays and advanced input support for an immersive experience. Smart glasses might also debut, offering features like real-time translation, navigation assistance, and message summarization, powered by Gemini AI.
The Galaxy Unpacked event will begin at 11:30 PM IST and will be livestreamed on Samsung’s official YouTube channel, website, and social media platforms. With so much lined up, the event is set to be a landmark moment for Samsung fans worldwide.
