Family Trapped Under Debris in Delhi, Survives 30 Hours on 3 Tomatoes

A family of four was rescued from the rubble of a collapsed building in North Delhi's Burari area after being trapped for over 30 hours. The family, consisting of Rajesh (30), his wife Gangotri (26), and their sons Prince (6) and Ritik (3), survived on just three tomatoes before being saved.

The tragic incident took place earlier this week when a four-story residential building near Oscar Public School collapsed on January 29, Monday evening, just before Rajesh was about to cook dinner for his family. The collapse occurred around 6:30 pm, leaving the family trapped beneath the debris. Rajesh and his family tried to free themselves by moving the rubble, but their efforts were in vain. They eventually gave up and waited for help. With no food around, they survived by eating the three tomatoes that were left in their house.

Rajesh shared his experience after being rescued, saying, "We tried everything to move the debris, but we couldn't. I left everything to God, and we survived for over 30 hours on just those three tomatoes." He added that when they were finally pulled out of the rubble, they were unconscious and didn't even remember how they reached the hospital.

According to authorities, the family was trapped in a small space created when a ceiling slab fell on a cooking gas cylinder, preventing the family from being crushed completely by the debris. The collapse also resulted in the deaths of five people, including two minors. Since the incident, 16 people have been rescued from the debris.
Delhi Police have launched an investigation into the incident and filed a case against the building's owner, Yogendra Bhati. He has been charged with various offenses, including culpable homicide, and has been arrested.

In response to the disaster, authorities deployed advanced equipment and even canine units to locate and rescue any other trapped survivors. The heroic efforts of rescue teams and the survival instincts of the family are being praised as they managed to hold on against the odds for more than a day.
