Himanshu Sangwan: Ex-Delhi TC Who Bowled Out Virat Kohli in Ranji Match

Virat Kohli’s much-awaited return to the Ranji Trophy has left his fans disappointed. On Day 2 of the match between Delhi and Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Kohli failed to make an impact with the bat, scoring only six runs. His early dismissal raised even more concerns about his recent form.

Kohli came to bat after Delhi skipper Yash Dhull got out. He faced 15 balls in total and managed to score just six runs. After getting off the mark with a single, Kohli hit a boundary off Railways' right-arm medium pacer Himanshu Sangwan. However, the very next ball brought Kohli’s downfall. Stepping out once again, Kohli misjudged a delivery that swung back in sharply after pitching. The ball slipped through the bat-pad gap and knocked over his off-stump. Both Kohli and the crowd in Delhi were stunned by the dismissal.

Himanshu Sangwan, the bowler who claimed Kohli’s wicket, has an interesting background. Hailing from Delhi himself, Sangwan made his List A debut for Railways in the 2019 Vijay Hazare Trophy and his first-class debut in the same year during the Ranji Trophy. He also played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Before making strides in cricket, Sangwan worked as a ticket collector at New Delhi Railway Station. He trained at the prestigious MRF Pace Foundation, where Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath guided him.

Kohli's struggle with form has been noticeable for some time. He had a rough patch in the recent Test series against Australia and New Zealand, which added to the pressure on the Indian cricket team. In response to the team’s declining performance, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) urged senior players to participate in the Ranji Trophy to regain match practice and rhythm.

Fans were excited to see other star players like Rohit Sharma turning up for Mumbai, along with Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who also played for their respective state teams. While Kohli’s poor performance was a disappointment, cricket enthusiasts are hoping the Delhi batter finds his form soon.
