The Election Commission announced that over 1.55 crore voters in Delhi will cast their votes in the upcoming Assembly election on February 5, with the vote counting scheduled for February 8. Delhi has 70 Assembly constituencies, 12 of which are reserved. A total of 13,033 polling stations will be set up for the election to elect members for the eighth Delhi Assembly.

The election will be held in a single phase. The last date to file nominations is January 17, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until January 20. With the announcement of the election schedule, the model code of conduct has now come into effect in Delhi.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, in a press briefing, shared that over 2 lakh young people will vote for the first time in this election. The Election Commission has also introduced several measures to make voting easier, including special arrangements for the elderly and people with disabilities. Those aged over 85 will be allowed to vote from home.

During the press conference, Mr. Kumar responded to concerns about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), denying any possibility of manipulation. He assured the public that EVMs are tamper-proof and cannot be hacked. "EVMs are not hackable. Every claim of manipulation has been thoroughly checked and proven false. This technology continues to ensure free and fair elections," he said.

The Election Commission also addressed accusations from both the AAP and the BJP about tampering with the voter lists. Both parties had accused each other of adding and removing names from the voter list to favor their chances in the election. Mr. Kumar stated that the Election Commission follows a strict and transparent process for any changes to voter lists.
