Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday made a heartfelt appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to fulfill the promise of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted how this long-standing commitment holds great importance for the people of the region.
While speaking at a public gathering in Sonmarg, the Chief Minister stressed the crucial role of statehood in bringing political stability and fostering development in Jammu and Kashmir. “Restoring statehood is not just about politics; it is about honoring a promise made to the people of this region. By fulfilling this promise, the government can demonstrate its commitment to the democratic aspirations of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
CM Omar Abdullah also pointed out that this was the Prime Minister’s second visit to the region in just 15 days. He acknowledged the efforts made by PM Modi to improve connectivity in the area, particularly through the inauguration of the Jammu Rail Division and other developmental projects aimed at boosting infrastructure and improving the lives of the people.
During his speech, CM Omar paid tribute to the seven civilians who tragically lost their lives in the Gagangir terror attack near the Sonmarg Tunnel. Expressing his deep sorrow, he conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims. He also emphasized the need to ensure justice for those affected and reaffirmed the government’s determination to enhance security measures in the region.
The Chief Minister’s words reflected his strong belief that restoring statehood and ensuring safety for the people of Jammu and Kashmir are vital steps toward a brighter and more stable future for the region.
