India has named a provisional 15-player squad for the Champions Trophy, set to start on February 19. The squad includes Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav, both of whom have faced injury concerns recently. Bumrah is recovering from a stress-related injury he sustained during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Kuldeep, on the other hand, has been recovering from hernia surgery and has not played competitive cricket since November. Kuldeep has been training hard, bowling 10-12 overs at a stretch at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

The squad, led by Rohit Sharma, includes Shubman Gill as vice-captain. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been selected for the first time in ODIs, is expected to be a back-up opener for the Champions Trophy. The middle order remains unchanged from the 2023 ODI World Cup squad, with Virat Kohli at No. 3, and Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul also retaining their places. Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel will be the allrounders in the team. Rishabh Pant has been chosen as the second wicketkeeper, ahead of Sanju Samson, who did not play in the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Mohammed Shami, who was recently included in the T20I squad for the home series against England after a long injury break, is also in the Champions Trophy squad. Shami was India’s highest wicket-taker in the 2023 ODI World Cup, with 24 wickets. However, Mohammed Siraj has not made it into the 15-man squad, with Arshdeep Singh replacing him. Arshdeep impressed with his performances, finishing as the highest wicket-taker in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and also leading India’s wicket-taking chart in the 2023 ODI series in South Africa.

Harshit Rana has been included as a back-up for Bumrah, who may not be fully fit for the first two matches of the bilateral series against England in early February. India will play three ODIs against England on February 6, 9, and 12, ahead of the Champions Trophy. After that, the team will face Bangladesh on February 20, followed by Pakistan on February 23, and New Zealand on March 2. All of India’s matches will be played in Dubai because the Indian government has not allowed the team to travel to Pakistan.

India's Champions Trophy squad for 2025 is as follows:

  • Rohit Sharma (captain)
  • Shubman Gill (vice-captain)
  • Virat Kohli
  • Shreyas Iyer
  • KL Rahul
  • Hardik Pandya
  • Axar Patel
  • Washington Sundar
  • Kuldeep Yadav
  • Jasprit Bumrah
  • Mohammed Shami
  • Arshdeep Singh
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal
  • Rishabh Pant
  • Ravindra Jadeja

This squad will be submitted to the ICC by February 11, with the team aiming to perform strongly in the tournament.
