Ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal has made another big promise. On Wednesday, the former Delhi Chief Minister announced that if his party is elected, all students in Delhi will get free bus rides. This promise is part of a series of announcements by AAP aimed at gaining more support from voters before the elections.
While addressing a press conference, Kejriwal explained that the goal is to make transportation easier and affordable for students. He mentioned that AAP is working on a plan to make bus rides free for students if they win the elections.
In addition to the free bus rides, Kejriwal also requested a 50% discount on Delhi metro fares for students. He said, “A lot of students use the metro, but it has become too expensive for them. Many students face problems while traveling because of the high costs. Since the Delhi government and the Central government share the metro's expenses, both should work together to provide a discount for students.”
Kejriwal wrote a letter to the Prime Minister requesting that the government give students a 50% discount on metro tickets. He proposed that both the Delhi and Central governments share the costs of the discount equally.
“This issue is not about politics,” Kejriwal stated. “It is a matter of public interest, and I hope the Prime Minister will consider it. After the elections, if we win, we will make bus travel free for all students in Delhi, and we will also provide a 50% discount on metro fares.”
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with votes being counted on February 8. The ruling AAP has already announced its candidates for all 70 seats, while the BJP has declared candidates for 59 seats. The deadline for filing nominations is January 17, followed by the scrutiny of nominations on January 18. The last date for withdrawing candidacies is January 20.
This election will be a tough competition between the AAP, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress. AAP, led by Kejriwal, is aiming for a third consecutive term in power, while the BJP and Congress are preparing to challenge the party’s hold on Delhi.
