Air India has issued a travel advisory for passengers traveling to and from Delhi during the days leading up to Republic Day on January 26. The airline has urged passengers to allow extra time for their journey to the airport and to check the status of their flights before leaving. This advisory is due to traffic restrictions and changes related to Republic Day rehearsals and celebrations in the national capital.
The advisory, shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), reminded passengers traveling between January 19 and 26, 2025, to plan accordingly to avoid inconvenience. Air India also emphasized that travelers could reach out to their contact center for additional assistance. Earlier, the airline had issued another advisory about potential flight delays caused by dense fog and airport congestion in Delhi and nearby cities.
A thick layer of fog has enveloped parts of Delhi, leading to reduced visibility and impacting normal activities. Combined with the ongoing cold wave, air pollution levels have significantly worsened. The air quality in Delhi has now fallen into the 'very poor' category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 344 this morning. This is a sharp increase from the AQI of 252 recorded at the same time yesterday, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The CPCB data revealed that several locations in Delhi experienced alarming levels of air pollution. For instance, Vivek Vihar recorded the highest AQI at 414, indicating severe pollution. Other areas such as Wazirpur (408), Nehru Nagar (394), and Okhla Phase-2 (380) also reported extremely high levels of pollution. North Campus, DU, recorded an AQI of 382, while RK Puram and Mandir Marg reported levels of 373 and 378, respectively. AQI levels between 301 and 400 are classified as 'very poor,' while those above 400 fall into the 'severe' category.
The worsening air quality and dense fog have raised concerns for travelers, making it crucial to plan trips with care. Air India’s advisory is a reminder for passengers to remain cautious and prepare for possible delays or disruptions during this time, ensuring a smoother travel experience amidst the challenges.
