2 Indian-Origin Among 5 Charged in US Robbery

Two Indian-origin individuals are among five people accused of carrying out an armed robbery at the home of a small business owner in the United States. The incident took place in front of the victim’s young children, leaving the family traumatized.

The accused include Bhupinderjit Singh, 26, Divya Kumari, 26, Elijaih Roman, 22, Corey Hall, 45, and Erik Suarez, 24. According to authorities, the group orchestrated a violent home invasion in Orange County, New York. The suspects have been arrested and presented before United States Magistrate Judge Victoria Reznik in White Plains federal court. This information was shared in a statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

The five individuals face charges of robbery conspiracy, which could result in a maximum prison sentence of 20 years. They are also charged with robbery, carrying the same maximum penalty of 20 years. Additionally, Singh, Roman, Hall, and Suarez have been charged with using, carrying, possessing, and brandishing a firearm during a violent crime. This charge carries a potential maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

Acting U.S. Attorney Edward Kim stated that the group allegedly planned and carried out a violent robbery. During the incident, four young children witnessed their parents being zip-tied and held at gunpoint as the suspects ransacked their home in search of valuables.

James Dennehy, Assistant Director of the FBI, described the robbery as a shocking invasion of a family’s privacy and security. He noted that the suspects used a firearm to force their way into the house, stealing valuable jewelry and thousands of dollars in cash. He emphasized that the actions of the robbers terrorized the children, who were left begging for their parents’ safety.

The complaint filed in federal court details the robbery, which took place near the Town of Wallkill, New York, around December 1, 2024. When the suspects arrived at the home, Singh, Roman, Hall, and Suarez forced the homeowner and his 10-year-old daughter inside at gunpoint. Inside the house, the victim’s wife was with the couple’s three other children, who ranged in age from two to nine years old.

The suspects zip-tied the hands and feet of the husband and wife, placing them on a couch alongside their children. While one of the robbers stood guard, armed with a small black pistol, the others searched the house for valuables.

At one point, the homeowner’s 10-year-old daughter begged the robbers not to harm her parents. She even offered to show them where the family kept their valuables. When she could not open a safe, the robbers forced her mother to assist. The mother was then taken to the safe, which she opened under duress. The suspects took several pieces of jewelry and approximately $10,000 in cash from the safe.

During the robbery, Divya Kumari acted as a lookout, waiting near the victim’s home to monitor the situation. After stealing the valuables, the group fled with the stolen items, including the jewelry and cash.

The case highlights the harrowing experience faced by the victim’s family and the serious consequences for those involved in such violent crimes. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
