Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi has issued an administrative decision to establish the “Sharjah Design Council,” a new initiative aimed at strengthening the design sector in the emirate and supporting the growth of creative industries.
The announcement was made under the vision of the Sharjah Creative Quarter (SCQ), which continues to focus on attracting creative talent, global brands, and modern design practices to Sharjah.
As part of the initiative, SCQ will also launch “Sharjah Design Days,” a specialised platform that will bring together designers, creatives, and industry experts from around the world. The platform will help develop the design ecosystem in Sharjah and increase its presence on both regional and international levels.
According to the decision, the Sharjah Design Council will work on creating specialised programmes and initiatives to build a sustainable creative environment in the emirate. The council also aims to strengthen Sharjah’s position as a leading regional centre for design and cultural industries.
The council will focus on building regional and international partnerships in design-related sectors while also supporting emerging and professional designers through educational and training platforms. It will encourage innovation and creative production across different areas of design.
Among its key responsibilities, the council will develop strategies and policies related to the design sector, supervise the implementation of programmes and initiatives, and organise exhibitions, showcases, and specialised events.
The council will also introduce environmentally and economically sustainable initiatives in prototype design and manufacturing, further supporting Sharjah’s long-term vision to become a major hub for creativity and cultural development in the region.
