During his state visit to China, To Lam toured the historic Central University Campus in Nanning, Guangxi, accompanied by his wife and a high-profile Vietnamese delegation. Leaders from Guangxi University guided them throughout the visit.
The delegation explored a photo exhibition that celebrated the history of the institution, known as Nanning Yucai School. This site signifies the longstanding relationship between Vietnam and China, showcasing decades of partnership and collective challenges.
While at the venue, To Lam reflected on the emotional significance of the location, emphasizing its representation of the strong bond of “comrades and brothers” shared by both nations. He recalled the 1950s, a time when Vietnam fought for its liberation and received crucial backing from China.
He recognized the vital contributions of the Chinese Party, State, and people in aiding Vietnam during its trying times, focusing on their support in building schools, ensuring student safety, and enriching education. He also treasured the stories of teachers and students that form part of the collective historical narrative.
The Vietnamese leader reiterated Vietnam’s appreciation for China’s past assistance in its struggles, acknowledging Guangxi's efforts to safeguard landmarks linked to President Ho Chi Minh, which symbolize the enduring friendship.
Recalling President Ho Chi Minh’s words during his 1957 visit to the school, To Lam stressed the importance of gratitude, learning dedication, discipline, and a sense of responsibility to the nation, urging these values to continue inspiring future generations.
To Lam expressed optimism that educational institutes in Guangxi would enhance partnerships with Vietnamese universities, fostering cultural and knowledge exchanges that would cultivate skilled personnel and strengthen bilateral ties.
Initially established in 1951 as a training center for Vietnamese cadres during the resistance, the Central Campus trained about 7,000 individuals, many of whom became prominent leaders, scholars, and cultural figures. The site remains a powerful symbol of the lasting friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and China.
