Dubai’s busy Al Aweer Central Fruit and Vegetable Market is set for a major digital boost. DP World has joined hands with Parkin to launch a fully automated smart parking system that will manage around 2,500 spaces for light vehicles and 500 for trucks.
The system, powered by real-time data and license plate recognition, will eliminate barriers and allow seamless entry and exit. The goal is to cut congestion, ease traffic, and make operations smoother for traders, transporters, and suppliers who move thousands of tonnes of produce through the market each day.
Located in one of Dubai’s most active trading zones, Al Aweer Market is a vital link in the region’s fresh food supply chain. The new parking system is expected to improve turnaround times, reduce delays in goods movement, and enhance overall market efficiency.
This initiative is part of Dubai’s wider Smart City agenda, which aims to bring automation and digital connectivity to essential urban systems. By upgrading logistics infrastructure at Al Aweer, DP World and Parkin are helping transform the site into the world’s largest integrated centre for food trade and logistics.
Last year, Dubai Municipality and DP World signed an agreement to expand the market and connect it to international trading networks. Once completed, the upgraded hub will double the size of Dubai’s current wholesale produce market and strengthen the city’s position as a global food distribution leader.
