At Al Baraka Palace in Muscat, Oman and Botswana have solidified their cooperation through a series of essential agreements. This ceremony was graced by both Haitham bin Tariq and President Duma Gideon Boko during an official visit.
The signed agreements emphasize vital sectors such as mineral exploration, petroleum storage, and renewable energy. These initiatives are set to fortify economic relations and uncover new investment opportunities for both nations.
A standout collaboration involves OQ and Botswana Oil, which will analyze fuel supply chains, storage capacities, and long-lasting energy security solutions in Botswana.
The two entities plan to develop an integrated fuel supply model that links import systems with coastal storage and inland reserves, thus enhancing supply chain efficiency and ensuring reliable fuel access across the region.
Moreover, a significant solar energy initiative led by O-Green has been earmarked for a 500 MW photovoltaic power plant in Maun, Botswana, which will also feature advanced battery storage for a stable energy supply.
Officials noted that this renewable project is one of Botswana’s most expansive to date and is crucial to the nation's ambition of sourcing 50% of its electricity from renewable assets by 2030. It is anticipated to double Botswana’s existing power production capacity.
Additionally, a mining cooperation pact has been established to promote exploration and development of mineral resources, emphasizing knowledge exchange, technical collaboration, and joint investments in essential minerals for sustainable economic growth.
