In a groundbreaking political achievement, Vijay's party has become the dominant force in the Tamil Nadu elections, securing 108 seats out of 234 in the assembly. This major win marks a notable entry into the political arena for the actor-turned-politician, who shifted focus from his illustrious film career just last year.
According to the Election Commission of India, Vijay also emerged victorious in both the constituencies he contested—Tiruchi East and Perambur. Despite leading as the largest party, his political faction is still 10 seats away from the 118 needed for a simple majority. Analysts predict that Vijay will now look to collaborate with other parties to establish a coalition government.
This outcome is particularly striking since Vijay launched the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam only in February 2024. Known as one of India's top-earning actors, he stepped into politics after his final film, Jana Nayagan, in 2025—a move that caught fans and analysts by surprise.
Vijay’s path to victory was not without its hurdles, including a tragic incident during a rally last October and various controversies throughout the campaign trail. However, the unwavering support from his fans bolstered his popularity as the election progressed.
The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won 59 seats, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam obtained 47. This election has showcased a significant shift in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, with Vijay's nascent party quickly emerging as a formidable opponent.
Excitement over Vijay’s electoral win resonated far beyond India, reaching Malaysia where he enjoys a vast fanbase. Celebrations unfolded in Kuala Lumpur and George Town, with fans visiting Tea Kadai outlets to celebrate the results by offering free tea to those displaying congratulatory signs for Vijay.
Co-founder of Tea Kadai, Mohamed Rizwan Abdul Ghafoor Khan, stated that the event was a gesture of appreciation for Vijay, with nearly 400 free cups of tea distributed from evening till midnight. Videos of the jubilation quickly circulated on social media, garnering reactions from both Malaysian and Indian fans.
Vijay has maintained a strong connection with Malaysia over the years, with several films such as Kuruvi and Kaavalan shot there. His enduring popularity among Malaysian Tamil audiences made this celebratory event especially meaningful.
Last December, Vijay's farewell concert and movie album launch attracted an impressive 80,000 fans at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, breaking records for celebrity events in Malaysia. With his latest political success, many observers see Vijay advancing into a new chapter of influence, not just as a film star, but also as a significant political figure in Tamil Nadu.
