The Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development (DCD) has launched the fourth edition of its Sports and Physical Activity Survey, open until 20 September 2025. The survey aims to gather community feedback on practising sports, attending events, and using sports facilities to help shape the future of sports in the emirate.
The initiative builds on the success of previous surveys, which have significantly boosted sports participation and physical activity levels across Abu Dhabi. Earlier results showed community sports event participation rose from 40,000 to 481,000, physical activity rates increased from 37% to 53%, and the number of multi-use sports facilities grew from 450 to 950.
This year’s survey focuses on three main areas: physical activity, sports events, and sports facilities. It also seeks to understand challenges preventing people from engaging in sports and identifies community preferences to support better sports policies, programs, and initiatives.

His Excellency Mohamed Helal Al Blooshi, Executive Director of the Community Engagement and Empowerment Sector at DCD, highlighted the importance of the survey: “This 4th survey is a key tool to understanding the needs and ambitions of our community. It helps identify challenges in practising physical activity, the kind of events that encourage participation, and satisfaction levels with current sports facilities. The data allows us to develop programs and policies that enhance physical activity, sports events, and infrastructure, improving the overall quality of life in Abu Dhabi.”
His Excellency Ahmed Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Strategic Affairs Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said the survey outcomes support government efforts to promote active lifestyles and integrate sports into daily life. He praised DCD and partner entities for raising awareness and encouraging participation, emphasizing joint collaboration to build a healthy and active society in Abu Dhabi.
The survey remains open until 20 September 2025, and residents are encouraged to participate to help shape the future of sports in the emirate.
