The World Bank has approved $225 million in grant financing to support Syria in improving public services, especially in the water and health sectors. The funding comes from the International Development Association (IDA).
The financial package includes two major projects. The first, the Syria Emergency Water Security and Resilient Services Project, will receive $150 million. Its main goal is to restore water supply systems and wastewater infrastructure in densely populated areas where services have been disrupted.
The second project, the Syria Health System Recovery and Strengthening Project, has been allocated $75 million. It aims to improve access to quality healthcare and strengthen the capacity of Syria’s public health system.
Together, these projects are expected to benefit around 4.5 million people across the country. The focus is on ensuring reliable access to clean water, better sanitation, and improved healthcare services.
Jean-Christophe Carret stated that rebuilding infrastructure and restoring essential services are key priorities for Syria’s recovery. He added that improving public services will help enhance living conditions, strengthen social stability, and support the return of refugees and displaced people.
This funding marks an important step in Syria’s ongoing efforts toward recovery and stabilization by addressing critical needs in basic services.
