Today marked the grand opening of the Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi's Saadiyat Cultural District, coinciding with the UAE's 54th Eid Al Etihad festivities. Esteemed attendees included members of the Supreme Council, rulers, crown princes, and other dignitaries. This museum pays homage to the remarkable life and legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE.
The Zayed National Museum unfolds the narrative of the UAE and its citizens, from ancient epochs to contemporary times, utilizing cutting-edge technology, visual tales, artifacts, and historically significant items. The building's design draws inspiration from the elegant wings of a falcon, symbolizing the country's ambitious spirit and profound ties to its cultural heritage and surroundings.
H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan described the museum as a testament to Sheikh Zayed's visionary leadership and humanitarian ethos. He noted its role in connecting the UAE’s history, present, and future, offering an opportunity for all generations to delve into the nation’s culture, traditions, and accomplishments.
During the opening ceremony, H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and fellow rulers explored the various museum galleries. Exhibit highlights include personal artifacts belonging to Sheikh Zayed, a variety of documents, photographs, audio recordings, archival footage, and archaeological treasures—totaling over 3,000 items, with 1,500 currently displayed, each showcasing the UAE's vibrant history and the evolution of its people.
The museum is home to six permanent galleries. 'Our Beginning' narrates Sheikh Zayed’s life and the unification efforts of the Emirates. 'Through Our Nature' investigates the UAE’s diverse ecosystems and commitment to sustainable living. 'To Our Ancestors' showcases archaeological discoveries that reveal millennia of human civilization. 'Through Our Connections' highlights the early communities as well as developments in science and technology. 'By Our Coasts' commemorates the nation's rich maritime heritage. Lastly, 'To Our Roots' emphasizes Emirati customs, values, and historical trade practices.
Additionally, the museum features spaces designated for temporary exhibitions and the Al Masar Garden, a 600-meter-long outdoor gallery presenting the UAE’s natural landscapes and historical narratives. A dynamic cultural program has been initiated, offering live performances, interactive workshops, guided tours, and activities designed for visitors of every age. This initiative enables everyone to connect with the UAE’s rich history and heritage in a vibrant, educational setting.
