The people and government of Saudi Arabia are united with the United Arab Emirates in marking the important occasion of the UAE's 54th Union Day. This day commemorates the establishment of the UAE, with Saudi Arabia showcasing deep respect and solidarity for this significant national celebration. The two nations enjoy a rich history of camaraderie, cooperation, and robust ties that have blossomed over the years.
The formation of the UAE took place on December 2, 1971, when the leaders of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah made an agreement to establish a new federal state. They introduced a temporary constitution to steer the young nation during its foundational phase. Subsequently, on February 10, 1972, Ras Al Khaimah joined the federation, fortifying the unity and structural integrity of this new entity. This alliance ushered in a transformative era of growth, development, and architectural progress throughout the UAE.
Beyond mere political alliances, Saudi Arabia and the UAE enjoy shared histories, overlapping traditions, neighboring geographies, and profound cultural and religious bonds. These ties have cultivated a long-standing and amicable relationship, fostering mutual trust and unity across numerous facets.
Under the guidance of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the friendship between Saudi Arabia and the UAE has flourished. Both leaders emphasize collaborative efforts, regional stability, and joint advancement. Their commitment has facilitated cooperation on critical matters such as security, economic growth, and social progress.
Today, the UAE stands as a leading example of successful unity within the Arab world. Over the past five decades, it has established a resilient and stable governance framework, achieving remarkable advancements in education, technology, infrastructure, tourism, and global partnerships. This progress makes Union Day a powerful emblem of pride for the UAE and its allies, notably Saudi Arabia.
