Israel deployed its advanced Iron Dome air defence system to the United Arab Emirates during the early phase of Iran’s attacks, according to a report by Axios citing US and Israeli officials.
Along with the system, Israel also sent military personnel to operate it. The Iron Dome is widely known for intercepting short-range rockets, missiles, and drones, and has been a key part of Israel’s defence strategy.
The move came after the UAE faced continuous attacks from Iran targeting its infrastructure during the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel. While many incoming threats were intercepted, some projectiles managed to hit civilian and military locations, raising concerns within the Emirati leadership.
According to officials, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan directly contacted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to request urgent support. Following this, Netanyahu ordered the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to deploy an Iron Dome battery along with dozens of defence personnel.
Reports indicate that the system played a major role in strengthening UAE’s air defence, successfully intercepting dozens of Iranian missiles. According to Abu Dhabi’s defence ministry, Iran launched around 550 ballistic and cruise missiles, along with more than 2,200 drones during the attacks.
This marks the first time Israel has deployed the Iron Dome system to another country. With this, the UAE becomes the only nation apart from Israel and the United States to have used the system.
The development has further strengthened defence ties between the UAE and Israel. Officials from both sides confirmed close coordination during the conflict. Experts and former officials have also highlighted the growing strategic partnership, noting support in military operations, intelligence sharing, and diplomacy.
UAE officials reportedly described the assistance as a critical moment, acknowledging the support from allies including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Australia.
The deployment of the Iron Dome is being seen as a significant step in regional defence cooperation and a turning point in UAE-Israel relations.
