Five people have died and four others suffered minor injuries in a fire at an apartment building in Manlleu, Catalonia, Spain, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The blaze started in a storage room of a five-story building in the Osona area, north of Barcelona. Firefighters said all the victims were young, and some may have been underage.
Officials added that the victims were unable to escape from the storage area, though the exact reason remains unknown. The Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s police force, have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Identification of the deceased is ongoing and is expected to be completed on Tuesday morning, as some bodies were badly charred.
