In a heart-wrenching accident on the Maju Expressway (MEX) in Kuala Lumpur, a young Bangladeshi man lost his life, reportedly due to drunk driving. The tragedy unfolded just after the victims had exited the airport, turning an ordinary trip into a devastating event.
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Muzahid Millad, who was in an e-hailing car with his wife when their vehicle was hit by another car. The impact was severe, leading to critical head injuries for Muzahid, who was declared dead at the scene.
Police reports indicate the incident involved a Perodua Alza operating as an e-hailing vehicle and a Ford Fiesta. Initial investigations reveal that the Ford Fiesta, driven by a 31-year-old military officer, may have veered into oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision.
Authorities have detained the military officer and secured a five-day remand for further investigation, with court approval following a police submission, underscoring the serious nature of this fatal incident.
A breathalyser test showed that the driver’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit, while further testing eliminated any presence of drugs, highlighting alcohol as the central issue.
Several others sustained injuries in the crash. Muzahid's wife, a 20-year-old Bangladeshi, is currently hospitalized, while the e-hailing driver, the military officer, and a female passenger also required medical attention.
Emergency services swiftly arrived, providing medical care and clearing the wreckage, which caused brief traffic halt and raised safety concerns among travelers on major highways.
