The Consulate General of India in Dubai has expressed deep sorrow over the death of an Indian crew member who lost his life in an unfortunate incident at sea.
In an official statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the consulate said it is in contact with the ship owner and is gathering more details about the incident. It also assured that all possible assistance will be provided on priority.
The consulate stated, “The Consulate is saddened to learn of the unfortunate incident at sea that caused the tragic death of an Indian crew member of a ship. The Consulate is in touch with the owner of the ship and is ascertaining further details. The Consulate will render all possible assistance in this matter on priority. Our deepest condolences.”
Further details about the identity of the deceased and the circumstances of the incident are still awaited.
Meanwhile, earlier on May 6, the Director of Shipping at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Opesh Kumar Sharma, said that all Indian seafarers in the region are safe and no incidents had been reported between May 4 and May 6.
He also informed that the government has facilitated the safe repatriation of more than 2,999 Indian seafarers from various locations across the Gulf, including 23 seafarers in the last 48 hours.
Sharma added that the Ministry is working closely with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions, and maritime stakeholders to ensure the safety and welfare of Indian seafarers and smooth maritime operations.
He further confirmed that port operations in India remain normal, with no congestion reported.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and are coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure timely support and assistance.
