Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (Roads and Transport Authority) has updated its light vehicle driver training curriculum to include the latest advancements in modern car safety technology, especially Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
The updated training programme now teaches learners about key smart safety features such as forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, lane departure alerts, parking assist systems, adaptive cruise control, and ABS. These systems are now commonly found in modern vehicles and are important for safer driving.
According to Sultan Al Akraf, Director of Drivers Licensing at RTA, the changes are designed to improve road safety, promote better driver behaviour, and reduce traffic accidents by aligning training with international standards.
The new curriculum has been developed in cooperation with driving institutes and is included in both theoretical and practical training sessions, as well as the official driver handbook used by learners.
Al Akraf also shared that more than 250,000 trainees have already benefited from the updated programme. Regular workshops are also being held for driving schools in Dubai to ensure consistent and up-to-date teaching of modern vehicle technologies.
The RTA said the initiative supports its long-term goal of building safer roads by preparing new drivers to properly understand and use advanced vehicle safety systems.
