During a ceremonial reception, Vietnam embraced Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico from April 12 to 14, 2026, at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi. The event, led by Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, marks an important chapter in Vietnam-Slovakia relations.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung warmly greeted Fico upon his arrival, underlining the significance of this visit as Fico's first formal engagement with Vietnam during Hung's leadership. This visit underscores the ongoing effort to fortify the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
This is Fico's third official visit to Vietnam, following his trips in 2008 and 2016. Notably, he becomes the first senior EU leader to arrive in Vietnam since the elevation of their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The welcoming ceremony featured a red carpet, national anthems, and an inspection of the Vietnam People’s Army Honor Guard. This exchange highlighted mutual respect and diplomatic cordiality between the two leaders.
After the ceremony, they moved to the Government Headquarters for comprehensive discussions and observed the signing of various cooperation agreements. Both leaders also toured an exhibition celebrating the rich history and ties between their countries.
Over recent decades, economic and trade ties between Vietnam and Slovakia have shown promising growth, with bilateral trade anticipated to nearing $1.78 billion by 2025. Slovakia's investment in various projects in Vietnam reflects a deepening economic partnership.
This visit is poised to enhance political trust, broaden collaborative efforts across trade, technology, and cultural sectors, and unveil new avenues for future cooperation between both nations.
