As Vietnam approaches the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and national reunification, it has launched a nationwide initiative aimed at amplifying support for war veterans, martyrs, and those who have served the revolution.

An official letter from Pham Thi Thanh Tra has set the directive in motion, urging the Ministry of Interior and local authorities to enhance welfare measures and improve living conditions for those beneficiaries. The government underscored the continuity of longstanding policies honoring national contributors.

Local authorities have been tasked with completing the distribution of commemorative gifts by April 28, 2026, with particular emphasis on severely injured and ill soldiers in specialized facilities, ensuring personal visits and support from local leaders.

Additionally, the initiative includes a thorough assessment of individuals affected by chemical exposure during the conflict. Local governments must pinpoint residents in distressed or makeshift housing and submit verified assistance lists to facilitate targeted aid and housing support.

The Prime Minister has highlighted the necessity for efficient administrative processes to recognize eligible beneficiaries and ensure uninterrupted delivery of benefits. Renovation plans for memorial sites and enhancements to facilities caring for veterans and their families are also slated for the 2026–2030 timeframe.

Furthermore, there is an emphasis on mobilizing widespread community involvement to bolster both material and emotional support for these groups. The overarching goal is to guarantee that by 2030, all deserving individuals and their families will enjoy a living standard surpassing the community average.

This initiative reaffirms Vietnam's enduring dedication to honoring its war heroes and supporting their families, while bolstering national unity and social responsibility during this significant historical commemoration.
