In a significant political development, Kerala's Chief Minister-designate V.D. Satheesan has initiated talks for the new state government after being selected for the role by Congress leadership. In his consultations, V.D. Satheesan met with former Chief Minister and current Opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan at his residence. This meeting gathered considerable political attention as Kerala gears up for a new governance era following this month’s Assembly election results.
The Congress party faced nearly ten days of uncertainty post-elections before the All India Congress Committee officially endorsed Satheesan for the Chief Minister role on May 14, marking the conclusion of intense discussions among party leaders vying for the position.
Prominent Congress figure Ramesh Chennithala, viewed as a leading contender for the post, publicly endorsed Satheesan, a move perceived by party members as a vital step toward bolstering unity within Congress and reinforcing the UDF alliance ahead of government formation.
UDF leaders are conducting critical talks concerning Cabinet roles and fair representation for alliance partners.
