UAE’s Strong History in the World Games
This is not the first time the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Team is competing in the World Games. The team has taken part in past events and has done very well. In 2017, the UAE team participated in the World Games held in Wrocław, Poland. During that event, they won one gold medal and one silver medal. Then in 2022, the team performed even better at the World Games in Birmingham, USA. They won five medals in total — two gold, one silver, and two bronze. These past achievements have made the UAE one of the top countries in jiu-jitsu at the World Games.
Arrival in China and Ready to Compete
The team arrived in Chengdu on Thursday. They are excited and ready to compete again on this global stage. Mubarak Saleh Al Menhali, the Director of the Technical Department at the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said that the team is determined to achieve more success this time. He explained that the athletes have taken part in many training camps, both in the UAE and abroad. These camps helped them prepare physically and mentally for the tough matches ahead. He added that the athletes have worked hard and are in great shape.
According to Al Menhali, the team includes both experienced men and women who have shown their talent at many past competitions. Their hard work and dedication have brought them to this moment, and now they are ready to give their best at the World Games.
Former Champion Joins the Team’s Journey
Faisal Al Ketbi, a former champion and one of the most respected names in UAE jiu-jitsu, is traveling with the team. He is there to support and guide the athletes. He believes the team has a very good chance of winning medals this year.
He shared that the team went to Brazil for a special training camp before the games. In Brazil, they worked on improving their fighting techniques and overall fitness. He said the team’s morale is high and their focus is strong. Everyone is aiming to do even better than last time and hopefully win more than two gold medals.
