Thailand and Peru are advancing towards the finalization of a Free Trade Agreement following high-level dialogues held between Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Peruvian Ambassador Cecilia Zunilda Galarreta Bazán in Bangkok.
This meeting occurred during the ambassador’s farewell visit as she concludes her diplomatic tenure in Thailand. Both parties emphasized the enduring friendship and partnership nurtured over the past 60 years between the nations.
Officials noted that progress in the negotiations for the Thailand-Peru Free Trade Agreement is welcomed, with aspirations to formalize the deal by the end of this year. Leaders from both countries believe that the agreement has the potential to significantly enhance trade and investment opportunities.
The talks also covered vital issues like food security and agricultural collaboration. Both nations recognized their robust agricultural capabilities and identified substantial prospects for expanding food trade in the future.
Prime Minister Anutin indicated that Thailand is poised to enhance its role as a food supply hub for Peru and other South American markets. Officials predict that tighter agricultural alliances could bolster long-term economic partnerships between the regions.
The ambassador also highlighted the Chancay Port project, projected to bolster logistical connectivity and supply chain interactions between South America and ASEAN countries. Thailand's role as a key trade conduit within the ASEAN zone is seen as pivotal.
Both sides concurred that enhanced logistical frameworks and more robust trade connections will yield benefits for businesses and economic advancement in both areas. These discussions reflect a growing desire for profound collaboration between ASEAN and Latin American nations.
At the meeting's conclusion, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the ambassador for her efforts in fortifying bilateral relations, wishing her success in her future diplomatic endeavors while reiterating Thailand’s camaraderie with Peru.
