In a compassionate move, Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul reached out to victims of the devastating train-bus accident in Bangkok, promising comprehensive assistance and compensation to all affected families.
On May 17, 2026, the PM, who also holds the title of Interior Minister, visited Camillian Hospital alongside Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angkasakulkiat. They met with injured individuals receiving treatment following the catastrophic collision at the Makkasan railway crossing on Asoke-Din Daeng Road.
During their hospital visit, officials delivered fruit baskets and engaged with patients and their families, ensuring they were aware of the care available to them after the tragic event. Authorities have branded the incident a heart-wrenching tragedy.
Anutin has tasked all relevant bodies to swiftly conduct a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident. He emphasized that the investigation's results are vital for enhancing safety protocols to avert future railway crossing disasters.
The government affirmed that both the State Railway of Thailand and the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority will collaborate to offer necessary compensation and medical assistance to the victims and the families mourning their loss from the incident.
Additionally, Deputy Minister Siripong relayed that Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn extended condolences to the victims' families and has mandated transport agencies to bolster safety measures at hazardous railway crossings nationwide.
Siripong has also been instructed to visit injured patients at Rajavithi Hospital, Phramongkutklao Hospital, and Ramathibodi Hospital, to personally oversee their recovery and provide governmental support.
As per the latest briefing at 11:00 AM, the collision has tragically claimed 8 lives and injured 30 individuals. Victims are currently receiving care at various hospitals across Bangkok, with some discharged after improvements in their health.
