Sharjah witnessed a spectacular start to its 12th International Film Festival on Sunday, as His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, officially inaugurated the event at the Al Qasimia University Theater. Organized by the FANN Media Discovery Platform, the festival has become a prominent hub for filmmakers and artists from across the globe to showcase their talent and connect with creative peers.
The opening ceremony celebrated excellence in Arab cinema and theater. Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Emirati actor Abdullah Saleh and Saudi actor Abdul Mohsen Al Nemer for their enduring contributions to drama, theater, and cinema in the UAE and Gulf region. At the Middle East level, veteran actor Abed Fahd received the prestigious award, highlighting his significant impact on regional art.

Youth talent was also in the spotlight. Emirati actor Marwan Abdullah Saleh received the Youth Award at the UAE level, while Gulf-level recognition went to actor Hala Al Turk, underscoring the festival’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent. Additionally, Basil Khayat was honored with a special award, acknowledging his distinguished efforts in enriching the Arab artistic landscape.
The festival continues to serve as a vibrant platform for creative dialogue, networking, and celebrating the diverse voices shaping Arab cinema today.
