Google has introduced a new AI feature called Gmail Live, making its email service more interactive and assistant-like. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI, the feature allows users to interact with their inbox using simple voice or text commands.
With Gmail Live, users can ask questions about their emails instead of manually searching through messages. For example, users can ask, “When is my child’s school event?” or “What hotel did I book for Dubai next month?” The system then finds the relevant emails and gives clear spoken or written answers.
The feature is designed to make email management easier and reduce the stress of handling large inboxes. Google describes this issue as “cognitive overload,” which happens when users are overwhelmed by too many emails, notifications, and tasks.
Gmail Live builds on earlier AI improvements in Gmail, including AI Inbox, which organizes emails more intelligently. AI Inbox can summarize messages, highlight important tasks, group similar conversations, and surface urgent items like bills, bookings, and appointments.
According to Google, Gmail Live works like a conversational assistant. It is similar to Gemini Live, allowing users to have back-and-forth voice interactions while the system pulls information from emails and connected documents.
The company is also expanding its AI integration across other Google tools such as Docs, Calendar, Keep, and Drive. Gmail remains the central focus because it contains large amounts of personal and work-related information.
As per reports, Gmail Live will first roll out in summer for mobile users subscribed to Google AI Pro and Ultra plans. Some AI Inbox features are currently limited to premium users in the US, with a wider rollout planned later.
