Flydubai, Dubai’s well-known low-cost carrier, is moving ahead with its ambitious growth plans in 2025. The airline has already welcomed seven new aircraft this year, with another five Boeing 737 MAX 8s expected to arrive before year-end. These additions are a key part of its strategy to expand its flight network, improve efficiency, and increase capacity on busy routes.
Fleet Growth in 2025
Between April and August 2025, flydubai took delivery of seven aircraft, increasing its total fleet to 93 planes. By the time all 12 aircraft arrive this year, the airline will have more than 95 planes in service. This growing fleet supports a network of over 135 destinations across 57 countries. With this expansion, flydubai is reaching more underserved cities, giving passengers new travel opportunities, and helping Dubai maintain its position as a top global aviation hub.

CEO’s Vision for the Future
Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said the arrival of these new aircraft reflects the airline’s long-term vision and confidence in the future of air travel. He explained that the extra planes will allow the company to give passengers more choices, better convenience, and improved connectivity. However, he also noted that despite these deliveries, the airline is still 20 aircraft behind its original projections due to delays in recent years.
Al Ghaith added that interest from financial partners has been strong, showing trust in flydubai’s business model and its role in the UAE’s aviation leadership. The new aircraft will help the airline open new destinations, improve operations, and play an even bigger role in Dubai’s growth as an international travel hub.
Financing the New Fleet
Flydubai has attracted significant interest from global financial institutions and leasing companies. For the first seven aircraft delivered this year, funding came from Islamic financing by Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), conventional debt financing from The National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah (RAKBANK), and sale-and-leaseback deals with JP Lease Products & Services Co., Ltd (JLPS) and JLPS Ireland Limited.
This mix of financing options shows that international lenders and investors see flydubai as a strong and reliable airline with good future prospects.
Expanding the Route Network
Alongside its fleet growth, flydubai has added 11 new destinations in 2025. These include summer destinations like Antalya in Turkey and Al Alamein in Egypt, as well as Damascus in Syria and Peshawar in Pakistan.
In Europe, four new destinations are coming soon — Chișinău and Iași will launch in September, while Vilnius and Riga will start in December. These additions will give passengers more travel choices and strengthen flydubai’s presence in Europe.
Improving the Passenger Experience
Flydubai is not just adding planes — it’s also upgrading its existing aircraft. Since early 2024, the airline has been carrying out a major cabin retrofit programme for its 23 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800s. This project, which will continue until 2026, is part of a multi-million-dollar investment.
The refurbished cabins feature lie-flat seats in Business Class and enhanced inflight entertainment in Economy Class. This ensures passengers get a consistent and comfortable experience no matter which aircraft they fly on.
Investing in People and Training
To support this growth, flydubai has been hiring more staff. The airline’s workforce has grown to over 6,500 employees in 2025, which is a 10% increase compared to 2024. These employees work across different roles, from pilots and cabin crew to engineers and ground staff.
Flydubai has also started a new Ab Initio Pilot Training Programme (MPL). This programme will train students to become future pilots, helping the airline prepare for further expansion in the coming years.
Flydubai’s Strategic Importance
Flydubai’s rapid growth plays an important role in connecting Dubai with the rest of the world. By adding new aircraft, opening new destinations, and improving passenger services, the airline is helping Dubai strengthen its position as a major global aviation hub.
The strategy is clear — grow the fleet, expand the network, improve service, and prepare for the future with strong training and recruitment. Even with delays in some deliveries, the airline remains focused on long-term success.
