Bangladesh Cricket Board has unveiled a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz continuing as captain. The series, starting on October 8 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, offers both sides a crucial opportunity to test combinations ahead of the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
A standout in the selection is right-handed batter Saif Hassan, who earns his first call-up to the 50-over team. His inclusion adds fresh depth to Bangladesh’s middle order. Nurul Hasan also returns to the ODI setup after a hiatus since 2023, bringing experience behind the stumps.

Injury concerns have affected the squad as regular opener Litton Das remains sidelined with a side strain. Meanwhile, Parvez Hossain Emon, who appeared in last July’s series against Afghanistan, has been left out.
The squad features a mix of youth and experience, including Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mohammad Naim, Towhid Hridoy, Tanvir Islam, Taskin Ahmed, and Mustafizur Rahman. All three matches will be held at the same venue, providing consistent conditions for players to settle into their roles.
With the World Cup cycle on the horizon, this series is expected to help Bangladesh experiment with their batting line-up and bowling combinations. Observers will closely watch how the newcomers, particularly Saif Hassan, adapt to international 50-over cricket.
