Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club successfully hosted the Arilah 60ft Dhow Sailing Race today, drawing an enthusiastic crowd and fierce competition.
The prestigious race saw the “Al-Tebr 55” dhow, owned by Rashid Mohammed bin Ghadir and captained by Mohammed Suhail Khalfan Al-Muhairi, clinch the coveted first place, leaving spectators impressed by their remarkable seamanship.

The event, a highlight of the traditional racing calendar, featured more than 90 dhows navigating a challenging 25-nautical-mile course. The race brought together experienced captains, dhow owners, and elite sailors, all competing in a spirited demonstration of sailing skill and maritime expertise.
Organisers allocated a total prize pool of AED4.2 million, rewarding top performers and encouraging broader participation in preserving the UAE’s maritime heritage. Beyond the competition, the race emphasizes passing down traditional sailing knowledge to younger generations, reinforcing cultural pride and community engagement.
