In a significant move towards enhancing technological collaboration, the United States and the United Arab Emirates convened for the inaugural meeting of the U.S.-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership Working Group on March 26 in Washington, D.C. Jointly chaired by U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg and UAE Minister of Investment Mohamed Al Suwaidi, the meeting saw participation from various U.S. government departments, including State, Commerce, Energy, and Treasury, alongside representatives from UAE businesses and officials.

The agenda concentrated on enhancing collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies. Acknowledging the transformative impact of AI on the economy, both countries pledged to focus on securing global AI supply chains while ensuring the ethical utilization of advanced technologies.

This working group stems from a larger AI partnership accord signed in May 2025, aiming to fortify collaboration, foster trust, and outline regulations surrounding export controls, investment evaluations, and technology safeguarding. These initiatives are key for the secure exchange and export of advanced AI technologies such as high-end chips.

During discussions, UAE representatives reiterated their dedication to the partnership, underscoring plans to synchronize with U.S. technology benchmarks while retaining autonomous decision-making. Additionally, the UAE showcased its commitment to long-term investments in the U.S., pledging $1.4 trillion across diverse sectors, with a focus on digitization.

U.S. officials reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to the agreement, assuring continued access to U.S.-origin AI technologies for the UAE, subject to strict security protocols. They also acknowledged advancements by the UAE’s G42 in establishing a secure framework for sensitive technology management.

Mike Johnson highlighted the vital nature of the U.S.-UAE partnership, stressing that robust collaboration with trustworthy partners is crucial for sustaining AI leadership and global competitiveness.
