Shia LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans just after midnight on Tuesday after police said he assaulted two men during a fight. The 39-year-old actor, best known for the Transformers film series, was charged with two counts of simple battery.
According to police, officers responded to a call around 12:45 am (0645 GMT) at a business located on Royal Street. Two men reported that they had been assaulted.
In a statement, police said LaBeouf had been causing a disturbance and was becoming increasingly aggressive. When a staff member attempted to remove him from the location, LaBeouf allegedly struck the man several times with closed fists.
Authorities said LaBeouf left the scene but returned shortly after and behaved even more aggressively. Several people reportedly tried to restrain him and later released him in the hope that he would leave. However, police said he again hit the same staff member, punching him in the upper body.
Police further stated that LaBeouf also punched another man in the nose during the incident. Bystanders held him until officers arrived.
LaBeouf was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not specified. He was later released. Police did not provide additional details about what caused the disturbance or the condition of the victims.
The actor has faced several arrests and legal issues in the past, including previously pleading guilty to an obstruction charge.
