Welcoming IIM Ahmedabad to Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the importance of education in shaping the future of the city. He said that the energy and ambition of youth are the driving forces behind Dubai’s growth. By providing them access to world-class education, Dubai aims to equip young leaders with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to thrive in a fast-changing global environment.
This statement reflects the growing partnership between India and the UAE. Over the years, both countries have strengthened their collaboration in business, technology, and culture. The opening of IIM-A’s Dubai campus is another step in deepening these ties, especially in education.
India’s Vision of Global Education
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan spoke at the event and emphasized the significance of IIM-A Dubai in globalizing India’s education system. According to him, this campus represents “another big leap towards the globalisation of India’s education as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
He added that the new campus will bring the best of India’s education to the world. The goal is to share India’s expertise in management education and innovation with international students and professionals, making India a global leader in higher education.
Academic Programs and Opportunities
IIM-A Dubai plans to start its academic activities by the end of September. The first program to be offered will be a full-time one-year MBA, specially designed for working professionals and entrepreneurs. This program aims to provide practical knowledge, leadership skills, and innovative thinking that can be applied in the real business world.
The Dubai campus will also create opportunities for students to network with global business leaders and access resources that are usually available only at the main campus in Ahmedabad. Students will have the chance to learn from experienced faculty, participate in workshops, and work on real-world business projects.
Collaboration and Support
During his visit, Minister Pradhan expressed gratitude to the UAE for supporting Indian institutions in Dubai. He highlighted India’s talent strength and UAE’s economic prominence as factors that can deepen bilateral ties.
Pradhan also held a roundtable with officials from other Indian universities already operating in Dubai, including Manipal University, Symbiosis University, BITS Pilani, and Amity University. The discussion focused on moving research from papers to real-life products and enhancing innovation.
In addition, Pradhan interacted with principals of 109 Indian schools in the UAE, with many others joining virtually. He announced that 12 UAE schools will set up Atal Tinkering Labs, which aim to encourage innovation and creativity among students. These labs will provide students with hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
IIT Delhi’s Initiatives in UAE
The visit of Minister Pradhan also highlighted India’s growing educational footprint in the UAE. On the first day of his visit, he inaugurated the Atal Incubation Centre (AIC) at IIT Delhi’s Abu Dhabi campus. This is the first-ever AIC hosted in an Indian institution overseas and is expected to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation.
He also launched B.Tech and Ph.D programs in chemical engineering, energy, and sustainability at IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi. These initiatives provide students with opportunities for advanced research and global exposure while strengthening the UAE’s position as a hub for higher education and research.
